Class!

The other day I was listening to a song from the OST of Chicago, Caterine Zeta Jones and Queen Latifah crooning about the lack of class…
How true!
We are cruising through the new millennium at neck breaking speed, every passing day has a new technology emerging in some part of the world. And with each passing day, a once brand new technology becomes more and more obsolete. My 20 gb ipod seems a little bit out of place compared to its slimmer 30 gb video counterparts, all in a matter of 2 months! The mobile phones are upgrading to replace almost every single gadget you own! Life’s cruising by fast in the cities, weeks fly by, weekends are rocking. Posh restaurants, pubs, discos are thriving by the hundreds. Cost takes a back seat, all that the crowd wants now is the most ‘happening’ joint. The market’s booming, cash is flowing, comparatively more freely, at least with certain sections in the society.
But where there are certain things that have been packed and tossed up the attic for good…and somethings that never did manage to find their ways into the public’s day to day routine….’Whatever happened to class???!’
No one bothers to say a sorry if they bump into someone in a crowded subway, queues are jumped with ease and the guilt is conveniently forgotten! Chivalry is a thing that never existed in the first place; and these days a lady would be glad if she doesn’t get pushed down by a ‘gentleman’ in his effort to run through a door on a busy morning! While walking out the door in a public place, people don’t find it necessary to hold the door; at least leave it open for the person coming next to pass by. And if the former does, the latter doesn’t even mumble out a ‘thanks’!
I have nothing against having a group outing to a restaurant or bar, but while in there to party, why wont people remember the person in the next table might be frustrated with his/her work, might have had a break up, or even heard that he/ she is terminally ill? In other words, you’re happy and celebrating doesn’t mean that everyone else is in a mood to do so…so DO NOT SHRIEK AND SCREAM THE ROOF DOWN!
And when did prying into someone’s private matter become justifiable?
Questions like What’s your salary? What’s your bank balance?...Are you having an affair?...who called you just now?...Do you use dentures?...an endless list of questions which someone might not even be sharing with their closest aides; but XYZ that knows this person for hardly a week; through a friend of XYZ, who happens to be a friend of ABC who is a colleague of the person in question!
Lines between opinions and judgments blurring with every passing day. ‘I do not like that movie’ – acceptable, fair enough! ‘It’s a bad, boring, awful movie’ – and the fact that it is just your opinion and someone else in the same table likes it is of no consequence? Worse still, commenting on someone’s taste ‘how could you eat at that joint?’ perhaps it did not occur that IT’S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!!
It wouldn’t take much effort to check one’s behaviour!
